WPRA Futurity/Derby Sidepot Guidelines:
Contestant Eligibility
- You do not have to be a WPRA member to enter the Futurity/Derby sidepots.
- Contestants must have a WPRA card or permit in order to accumulate WPRA points.
- Non-rodeo, futurity and derby memberships are available for $175 and include insurance.
- Onsite WPRA membership forms and/or nomination forms will be accepted, providing that all requirements are met. If paper work is not received by the WPRA or is incorrect all points will be forfeited and membership and or nominations will be considered null and void.
Horse Eligibility
- All Futurity/Derby horses must be nominated into the WPRA program in order to accumulate WPRA points.
- To nominate a horse you must send in a photo of your horse, copy of registration papers (or vet affidavit as to age) and a signed nomination form to the WPRA office.
- When you enroll points will be kept by participation. Sidepot points will be awarded 5 to 1st, 4 to 2nd, 3 to 3rd, 2 to 4th and 1 to fifth as applicable.
- All futurity entries must be 5 years old or younger. The horse may have never competed for money, prizes, or points anytime before December 1 of the previous year.
- Derbies are for horses 7 years old and younger, as long as they did not compete in futurities as a 4 year old. If so, then the cutoff age for a derby horse is 6 years old.
Competition Rules
- Sidepots must have a minimum of two entered.
- Futurity Sidepots will be a 2D format with a whole-second split. 70% to 1D; 30% to 2D.
- Derby Sidepots will be a straight payout.
- Side pots will pay one place for every four (4) entries in the 1D and 2D.
- Entry fees are $50 with 80% payback.
